GENERAL INFORMATION 
 
LOCATION 
 
The school is situated in the far-famed lake region of Central New York, 
near the shores of Owahgena Lake, twelve hundred fifty feet above the 
sea level, in one of the most beautiful villages to be found in any land. 
Cazenovia is on the U. S. Transcontinental Route 20, and is eighteen miles from 
Syracuse and forty-one miles from Utica.  The section of Route 20 from Albany 
to Syracuse is the historic Cherry Valley Turnpike, and constitutes the shortest 
automobile route between those cities.  The Colonial Bus Lines use this route 
and, in addition, give frequent service from Syracuse to Cazenovia. 
 
Cazenovia is also accessible by railroad, as it is reached by the Chenango branch 
of the New York Central system from Syracuse, and the Elmira and Cortland branch of the 
Lehigh Valley. 
 
FOUNDED 1824 
 
Projected in 1819, the Seminary formally opened December 1824, under the 
auspices of the Methodist Episcopal denomination, but with open doors for 
all earnest youth seeking an education in a Christian atmosphere.  It is one 
of the oldest existing academies founded by this denomination and was incorporated 
by the state legislature in April, 1825.  Eminent statesmen, theologians, educators, 
financiers, five bishops, and many leaders in yet other fields of endeavor had their 
preparatory training here.  The largest classes in its history have been graduated 
in the last decade. 
 
BUILDINGS and GROUNDS

Court House, erected in 1811 and purchased for the Seminary in 1824......
