        Eaton was set off from Hamilton Feb. 6, 1807. 
Joshua LELAND may be called the first settler in Eaton, though he was 
preceded a few months by John and James SALISBURY, brothers, from Vermont, 
who, in the autumn of 1792, located within the borders of the town, on lot 
94, and commenced a clearing, but were driven away in early winter by the 
intense cold and did not return.
