The Fryer Memorial Museum has an extensive genealogical collection. With the researcher in mind, all names in the collection have been placed on 3 x 5 cards, alphabetized and filed. The collection contains newspapers, scrapbooks, Bible records, family histories, obituaries and donated genealogies. Cemetery records for Madison county and lists of burials in some neighboring counties are also in the museums holdings.
Note: The facilities were recently expanded when the library moved to the new Stockbridge School building and Olive - the Historian - is able to use the entire building. An open house was held April 3, 1999 to announce the expansion. Layout and accessibility to information is excellent. Upon entering the lower floor the first thing you'll notice are the original 'fixins' from when the building housed the post office, complete with wall mounted post office boxes.
Fryer Memorial Museum is an all volunteer organization. There is no charge to use the facilities, but donations are welcome.
