John Archibald Campbell (1840- )

  John A. Campbell was born at Avon, Livingston County, NY, May 19, 1840, a 
son of John and Maroa (Rich) Campbell.  On September 19, 1862, enlisted in 
the 157th Regiment and was mustered out July 10, 1865, he was wounded in the 
left thigh at the Battle of Gettysburgh. He enlisted  as a private and for 
services and bravery was advanced through successive positions and returned 
to his home in 1865 as a First Lieutenant.  
 In 1867 he married Emma J., daughter of Harry and Laurie Cotton and they 
have two sons: John Wendell, who is in the grocery and meat business at 
Peterboro, and Harry Willard.
